October 27, 2014

So good to hear from y'all!
This was a great week for me! We started off the week by getting flu shots... hahaha Sister Bresnahan is 23 and is going to be a vet and is deathly scared of needles.. It's safe to say that getting a flu shot with her was not a simple task!
N, one of our investigators, came to FHE last week and loved it! She is so great! We're excited about her!
This last week we had interviews with President Heap! I love that man! He gives such good counsel and advice! I love Sister Heap too!
I got a package from both Angela and Brittnie this week! Ahhh I was SO excited! Thank you for thinking of me :)
We had a couple of really interesting lessons this week here on campus! One was with a girl named C who is a non-denom and was so nervous about meeting with us, that she was shaking in her boots! I didn't think us Mormons wearing little skirts and polka dot shirts were all that intimidating, but I guess I was wrong :) haha We also taught a catholic study group and it went well! So... remember me telling y'all about W a few weeks ago who was super solid and just fell off the face of the Earth?! Well.... A member of the branch met him a few days ago on campus and invited him to church... and he came! YAY! One of the less active members that we have been working with a lot lately (and is making a come- back to the church) received a spiritual witness that he needed to pay his tithing again! It has been 7 or 8 years since he stopped paying... so he acted upon that prompting and paid it for the first time on Sunday! It has been an awesome week!
I've also been killing all kinds of nasty bugs in our apartment.. I killed a huge cricket in our kitchen and a massive spider! EEEK! Gosh I'm so brave!
This week we have our mission tour with Elder Pino, of the seventy and his wife is coming along too! I'm so excited! It will be on Halloween (this Friday) and then our zone is having a Halloween party later that night! It will be great! Then on Saturday, our transfer calls will come! Woot woot!
Lately I've been studying Christ's life and ministry in the New Testament as well as the Book of Mormon- today I came across Matthew 9:36-38 and I love that it says, "The harvest is plenteous, but the labourers are few." There is A LOT of work to do and it is our (not only the 88,000+ missionaries) responsibility to gather the scattered sheep and bring them into the fold, but everyone's! Christ established HIS church and wants us all to be a part of it! Everyone is a member missionary! Fam and Friends- Go get em!
I love y'all! Have a great week!

October 20, 2014

Hey y'all!
I'm so happy to hear from everyone! Thanks Ri- Dawg for the email! You made my day! Momma- Last Monday we went to Burlington Coat Factory.... there may or may not be a charge on my card from there! hahaha! I really needed a new fall outfit... oopsie! :)
Anywho- This week was so great! We had exchanges earlier this week and Sister Smith (one of the STL's) came to here to Canyon with Sister Affleck and I. This area has been in a serious need of a facelift and miracles happened this week! We talked to so many people on campus and found a few new people to teach! It was great! President Heap has asked us YSA missionaries to make sure that we are attending Institute each week (probably because he was an institute teacher and has a major soft spot for it!) I LOVE going and studying from the Doctrine and Covenants! So good! Jade are you making time in your crazy busy schedule for institute? I hope so! Blessings will follow as you make time for the Lord! This week we took N and K (recent converts) to the temple for the first time! IT WAS AMAZING! I walked into the baptistry and who was the first person I saw? Sis Chris! Ahhh! I was so pumped to see my last companion there! I walked into the confirmations room and C (a recent convert from Lubbock) was there receiving the Holy Ghost for his ancestors! SO COOL! He looked up and saw me and gave me the funniest look! I think he was really excited and confused to see me there! Like, "I thought you left.. you're back!?" Then N was able to do her deceased grandparent's work. WOW! The spirit was so strong- I am absolutely sure that they accepted the work from the other side of the veil because you could feel their presence there so strongly! I can't even explain how great it was! Everyone was bawling! Yesterday at church, President Fish spoke in Sacrament Meeting about the restoration. His testimony solidified my testimony about the Prophet Joseph! Such a great meeting! We had a linger longer and Sister Affleck and I were sicker than dogs from the mystery meat that we ate hahaha! Not good...
Last night, we felt prompted to stop by a potential's home named N and she let us right in. We taught her the restoration and she was glued! She doesn't have much of a religious background, but she has such a strong desire to come closer to Jesus Christ! She will be baptized in a couple weeks, on the 8th of November... Woah, November? Where does the time go!? It's been a great week! I hope to hear from y'all soon!

October 13, 2014

Hello!
Thanks so much for the emails.. and thanks G-MA for the nice card in the mail! It's always nice to feel loved! I love getting mail! This week was awesome! We started off the week with a great zone training... I love missionary meetings! They always pump me up and motivate me to go out and do missionary work! This week we helped N, one of our recent converts, with her family history! She is working on preparing a family name for the temple!!- We are headed down to the Lubbock temple this Friday for our branch temple trip! So excited!! Sister Affleck had a flat tire on her bike (I swear she is the curse of bad luck) and right after we repaired it, we got a flat tire on our car! It was ridiculous! We had to drive down the country back roads to Amarillo on a spare donut tire to get our car fixed! It was an all-day event! We have been working a little bit lately with a less active named C who is a rough and tough cowgirl who barrel raced for New Mexico State.. Is that where my cousin Jacob rodeos? They probably know each other! We also did some service for a lady who has so much stuff crammed into her tiny house- we convinced her to get rid of 3 blenders and a brand new doggy-hair covered toaster oven (she has 4 yippy yappy dogs) which we gave to the elders. The elders weren't very smart and didn't wash it, even after we warned them where it came from, and made garlic toast in it and almost sent their apartment up in flames! Hahahaha! Anyways... we have been meeting with lots of members to increase their alacrity towards missionary work! We had an awesome Sunday at church- a great turnout compared to what our tiny little branch is used to! I love serving in YSA! It's definitely different...but it is great! I hope y'all are doing well! I love ya so much! Have a great week :)

October 6, 2014

Hey y'all!
It sounds like everyone is doing great! I love hearing from all of you each week :) Mom- I finally got my coat! Thank you so much- I love it!
Well... it's been a great week! We started off the week by getting our hair trimmed at a members (5 months is quite a while to go without a haircut! Yikes!) Then we met a cute little old guy named Roy at Walmart when we went shopping. He was the greeter and he pulled us aside to figure out what our name tags said. Once he figured out that we were missionaries for the mormon church, he pulled the "I'm a baptist preacher" card haha! Anyways, when we left the store, he told us how impressed he was with how modestly we were dressed and gave us free tickets to WT's homecoming football game! Too bad we couldn't use them.. but hey, it's the thought that counts! On Tuesdaywe had a special zone conference.... President and Sister Heap got a copy of the new movie "Meet the Mormons" and let us watch it! It is SO GOOD and will come out in theaters this Friday, the 10th! GO WATCH IT! The highlight of the week for me was definitely General Conference! Oh My Gosh! It was SO good... I thought Harrison was joking last year when he said conference is literally like the Super Bowl for missionaries! Nope.. real life!! I loved all of it, but here are my favorites/ thoughts:
-Before we came to earth, we accepted the plan and knew that we would face trials and hardships... but we are here to be tried, tested, and stretched! We can overcome all of the rough spots with our Savior's help!
- EVERYONE needs their own personal testimony!
-I loved Elder Andersen's talk about the Restoration (Saturday Afternoon Session)
-Parenthood was really emphasized this conference and I LOVED Elder Perry's talk!
and yes... Elder Bednar's talk at the end was exactly what needed to be said!
It was so powerful and we had an investigator, K sitting right there beside us listening to it! It touched her heart so much that she was crying through it! ...she never cries! Talk about a miracle!

We are so fortunate to have a living prophet today to lead and guide us safely home! I loved every minute of it! I hope all of you tuned in as well! If not, get on it!
I love y'all! Have a great week :)

Check out these random street signs! Apparently some guy paid people to put these signs with off-the-wall sayings in their yards! We see strange things everyday in Amarillo!
